4Get it for the keyboard pocketNov 29, 2010
By Ernest Le
I was very excited when I saw this product in Amazon because I actually do a fair amount of writing on my iPad but have never had a convenient case to carry both the iPad and my Apple Wireless Keyboard. I've previously used the Incase Book Jacket which is an excellent case if you don't usually carry a keyboard around with you a lot. In my case, however, I've had to just toss my wireless keyboard into a bag with the iPad, and while the keyboard has never suffered any damage, it still makes me worry a bit. The i.Sound iPad Keyboard Portfolio solves that problem, but it still has a few issues that keep me from giving it a perfect five stars.

First things first. The iPad itself fits snugly and securely into a couple of clips which hold it in place. I've experienced no slipping while using it, and ports remain easily accessible. The pocket is also perfect for the Apple Wireless Keyboard, and as you might imagine, only a keyboard as thin as Apple's will fit. The case containing iPad and keyboard is a bit on the heavy side, but this is acceptable since if the keyboard is in the pocket, you're probably transporting your iPad rather than trying to hold it in your hand and use it. The whole thing closes with some velcro on a flap.

You can't tell by the pictures, but putting the case in upright display mode involves folding it back over itself and inserting one end into a flap to hold it in place. Before I figured this out, I thought I was supposed to press the velcro surfaces together again which results in a configuration that simply doesn't balance correctly and won't stand up. If you get this case for yourself, you'll see what I mean. The manual will describe the proper way to set the case up. The whole setup is quite stable and will stay upright even if you tap your screen a little too hard. The so-called "keyboard" orientation where the iPad is laid at a more horizontal angle is well-suited for viewing in your lap. My only complaint here is that it takes a little bit longer to set up the case for display compared to the Incase Book Jacket.

The interior pouch is frankly useless. The materials state that it's for "cables or other accessories," but so small that I can't imagine what sort of accessories i.Sound thinks I should put in there. After a little careful folding, I was able to fit a USB cord in there, but not a USB power adapter. I suppose I could also put my earbuds in there or ONE pen. So even with this case, I am still going to need to carry my USB cord and power adapter separately in a bag which is a little bit disappointing.

There's also a velcro piece on the end of an elastic. Its purpose is a little too complicated for me to explain in this review, but suffice it to say it exists for a reason. I'm a little worried about the elastic bit, though. Parts like that tend to get loose after a while.

I'm no expert on leather construction, so all I can say is that the case feels rather nice and there's no reason to disbelieve i.Sound's claim that the whole thing is constructed of real leather.

Bottom line: if you don't do a lot of typing on your iPad or if you find that the touch screen keyboard is all you need, then this case is unnecessary. The Incase Book Jacket is probably all you'll need. However, if you have an Apple Wireless Keyboard and want to carry it around safely with your iPad, I can recommend this case for you. It has a couple issues which I hope will be addressed with further redesigns, but overall I was pretty happy with my purchase.

5No guys, it really does work!!!Feb 24, 2011

Okay so what if it took me over 2 weeks to figure out how to make it stand upright, having it sit flat was obviously a no-brainer :-) not sure if it came with proper instructions because I might have thrown them out with the box. It is actually a quite clever design so props due to the designer. I came so close to throwing it away and getting the Otterbox or Kensington case/stands.

Someone should upload pictures or post a video review on how this case performs its duties just fine ;-)

Anyways:

1. You will notice a 1-inch flap on the back of the case. Fold back the part of the cover with the keyboard slot and tuck it into this flap. That part of the case will form the bottom of the stand. This is the most important step!

2. Then fold back the rest of the cover and secure it with the elastic velcro strap.

Also, contrary to some of the reviews here, the apple wireless keyboard slides perfectly into the keyboard slot, and the case closes just fine with it in there, without the metal of the keyboard rubbing against the metal of the iPad. (Insert the skinny part first, with the keys facing the leather side of the cover.)

P.S. I typed this entire review with the iPad standing upright in this case! Five stars :-)

2Disappointing.Feb 23, 2011

In my never-ending quest to get a good keyboard portfolio for my iPad, I ordered this the other day. Received the case last night, returned it this morning. It's a good looking case, and it does hold the iPad very securely, but it had some key flaws that made it unworkable for me:

*Keyboard case does not hold the Apple keyboard securely, so it slips out each time you open the case. A simply restraining strap would have solved that problem.

*It's difficult to put it into landscape mode, and once it's in there, the bottom tends to round so it rocks back and forth slightly -- irritating when you're trying to watch a movie!

*I did like the pouch at the top; finally, someplace to put the stylus! Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to make up for the disappoitnments.

*Finally, in order to fit the keyboard, the case is about 1 - 1 1/2 inches longer than the iPad, which made it not fit in my netbook case... I should have seen that one coming, though.

Overall, I had really high hopes for this one, but it didn't live up to it. My search continues! (by the way, I'm aware that there are plenty of good keyboard portfolios out there... but not having a shift key on both sides of the keyboard is a deal killer for me... so... my own pickiness is killing me. :))

2Almost a great productFeb 11, 2012

I can't help but think this is some more halg a$$ stuff from China. I read in one review that the keyboard falls out and the IPAD2 won't fit. Well my case won't close without a buckle in it. Apparently they put the velcro in the wrong place so it is too short and causes the buckle.

If it weren't for another person's comment, I would have never figured out how to get it to stand.

My IPAD2 fits in the holder, but I have no place for my magnetic cover. Also I can't put it in sleep mode because if I close the case it is so tigtht that it turns on.

Its really a shame because the leather is nice and having a place to put the stylus is great. They really didn't engineer this at all. A real lack of intelligence went into this product. It is not worth price.

1I was hopeful...Feb 21, 2011
By M. Duryea "meshell"
I was really hoping that I would be able to have a cover for my iPad that could include my bluetooth keyboard. When I got this I figured it would just take a few times before the cover would adjust to being folded as a stand. The end result after two weeks...nope. I do not know if I am just doing it wrong but it does not work for me. I got the keyboard and the cover so I could do school work on my lunch hour but I end up just having to prop up my iPad on my lunch bag. I have to return this and get another type instead.
