Almost a year, still love itSep 20, 2010

A friend just posted on FB looking for recommendations on a cover for his new iPhone 4, and it prompted me to report that I've been thrilled with this product for the last year on my 3GS.
After perusing "the wall" in the Apple store for gosh knows how long, I opted for the inCase metallic slider cover. First off, I loved the color choices (mine in "gun metal," don't know if that's still available). Equally important to me though was 1) how much bulk did it add to this sleek piece of technology, 2) would it really protect my investment?, and 3) cost, practicality, ease of use, and aesthetics other than color.
It lived up to all my very nit-picky criteria. It has saved my iPhone from *at least one* serious drop (4+ feet freefall onto concrete) and a few less "gasp-producing" but still serious drops (from kitchen counter onto linoleum floor, flying out of my purse onto asphalt, etc.). The case has some scratches, but surprisingly few for my klutziness.
This case fits the phone absolutely snugly, so it's a little tough to remove if you want to clean underneath or switch covers (but why would you want to when the fit is so good NO grit gets between the case and phone?).
What really inspired me to take the time to write this was its "hand feel." (Foodies will be familiar with the term "mouth feel.") I just love how it feels in my hand -- hard but soft, almost like the surface is coated with talcum powder. It is *just* sticky enough to keep the phone from sliding around on my (cloth) car seats, but feels nearly as smooth as the phone itself. A year later I haven't even considered getting a replacement cover other than restoring the COVER to look brand new again. (As I mentioned, it's taken some knocks.) The phone still looks new -- literally, BRAND NEW. Combined with a non-glare mylar lens cover that I've been using since I got the phone, this case offers great protection for your iPhone without sacrificing sleek profile.
I just while writing this removed the cover (1st time in 11+ months) to see how difficult it was (and thinking it's about time to replace the lens protector, which has been minorly bubbling up in one corner for a while). It took a little futzing to get the case off (20 seconds worth?), but the phone looks like the day I got it, even after 11 months and 2 weeks of use.
In my book, that's 5 stars.
