Out of the laptop stands available in the box stores I've entered, this one is the most stable, pretty and stylish. It was also shipped extremely well packed in the original RTA box. I've taken two stars off for 1) the assembly instructions and 2) limitations caused by the design.

For those that are not mechanically inclined, a word of warning. The assembly instructions are a little lacking in that it doesn't clearly state you need to use a rubber mallet to tap the wheels into the 5-legged metal base as well as tap the adjustable metal stand (which is actually a shock absorber) into the lever part BEFORE attaching both to the glass top. If you don't, the wheels and glass top will detach when lifted. Rather scary when I was attempting to lift what I thought was a fully assembled table over a sleeping dog and the base detached leaving me only holding the glass top. Luckily, the dog is extremely agile and didn't get hurt.

As for the design, the tempered glass is thick, the edges are curved, and the 5-legged metal base is solid. Once assembled, the glass top can swivel without the 5-legged base moving, which is a nice feature. The glass top's slightly curved half oval and elongated design is stylish and well thought out; no sharp edges to hit and room to spread out papers or easily use a mouse and laptop. As previously mentioned, the stand is a powerful metal covered shock absorber. The problem is the pole that raises as you adjust the height is greased, so I am unable to place this next to a bed/furniture plus I have to be careful to keep my knees away from the greased pole. Also, the shock absorber is so powerful that it lifts the table just fine, but I have to use all of my 150 lbs pressing on the middle of the table in order to lower it. Luckily, I don't do that often.

Would I still buy again? Definitely, for my needs as an extra workspace in my office for papers/writing. It is the best one I've found so far. However, if you have smaller children or teenagers around, you may be cleaning greasy fingers and pants until they get used to staying away from the shock absorber.

5Great customer serviceSep 15, 2011

I received my laptop stand right on time and easily put it together. Unfortunately the hydraulic cylinder that raises and lowers it became stuck in the up position the first time I touched the lever and it popped all the way up. It would not lower no matter what I tried, so I called Stacks and Stacks. I was very pleased with the attitude and actions of their customer service rep. She worked with me and the manufacturer to find a simple solution to the issue. I was sent a replacement for the cylinder which is working perfectly. The way they took responsibility and made every effort to satisfy me was absolutely wonderful. I would use them again and again for office furniture needs.

The table itself is very nice looking and has been working well. It was the best match for our existing furniture.

4Not bad! Not bad at all.Aug 23, 2011

This is a glass topped table, irregularly shaped, but rather nicely made. I can put a 16" laptop on it, and leave a good sized space for my mouse on the right (or left, but not as large on the left side, as it is on the right).

Part D:
The instructions are three drawings, labeled Step 1, Step 2, Step 3, and that is the sole text on the page. Note: part D shown in the drawings to apply to the base of the stand IS NOT INCLUDED, not needed, apparently, as the piece that is welded to the base replaces it. So Step 2 is wrong.

The screws to assemble the top to the upright are Allen-headed machine screws, and the Allen wrench is included, as are the required screws, and washers.

Yes, you need a rubber hammer (It may be possible to use a 4 by 4, but that is up to you). I placed it top down, on a leather chair, and tried to make the top "one with everything", and got a 'Zen' surprise. It still came off, until I placed it on the carpeted floor, took my trusty rubber hammer to the upright, WHACKED it solidly, and thus assembled it. I then added the upright to the top surface and the wheels to the base, and finally whacked the base onto the upright. (No dogs nor children were sacrificed to the gods of furniture assembly in the building of this stand.) If you have hardwood floors, I'd put a large towel on the floor, fold it to protect the entire top from contact with the wooden floor. I then tried to use it, as was intended, and NOTHING HAPPENED.

No, the top and base remained assembled as expected, but the mouse did not cause the display to change, either. If you want to use a laptop on this stand, be sure your mouse is designed to work on a glass surface, or be prepared to put a piece of paper on the glass top. (If, after testing with a piece of paper, BELOW the top, if you wish to tape it to the underside of the surface, its Okay with me.) There are mice designed to work with transparent surfaces, but, probably not 2 feet above the carpet/your feet. Be kind to electronic Rodents.

4Pleasantly SurprisedJan 04, 2011

I bought this for my teenage son's room to be used for homework, as a laptop desk, snack table and end table. But the fact is that this little table hasn't spent much time in his room because the whole family seems to find uses for it. It was worth every penney.

It's also surprisingly well made and very sturdy. It doesn't feel cheap at all. Really my only complaint is that the handle for adjusting the height sticks out into the kneespace, but based on the picture it's possible that was how my husband happened to assemble it.

Honestly I'd buy a couple more to keep in other rooms if there were more color/finishes available to blend with the decor in my other rooms.

1Significantly smaller than describedJan 04, 2012

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2AURSF9K9SB3M The desk is *very* small. Otherwise it's a cute small desk. I've received it as a gift, and I am very grateful for it, will keep it because I can make use of it, and it's definitely not worth my time messing with returns and exchanges (it's a bulky item), but I am writing a bad review to warn other potential buyers from severe misrepresentation of the product.

My video features these numbers "in action". I am showing two laptops (a 12.1" and a 14.1") and how they fit on the desk.

Height: 27.5" (70cm) - at maximum height. Notice that it's NOT adjustable to 31.5" as advertised.
Length: 25.5" (65cm) - at the longest measure.
Width: 13 3/4" (35cm) - at the widest measure.

Laptops:
Thinkpad X201 12.1": 11 3/4" (29.5cm) x 8 1/4" (21cm) - that's 45% of max length and 60% of max width on the desk.
Thinkpad T61 14.1" with 9-cell battery: 14" (36cm) x 11" (28 cm) - that's 55.3% of max length and 80% of max width of the desk.

If you load the displayed picture in a picture editing tool, rotate it properly and measure laptop's proportions relative to the desk, you'll get that the displayed laptop takes about 31% in length of the desk and about 49% of the width. Which means it's only 2/3 of the small X201 12.1". What kind of laptop is there?!?
